I Wish I Knew How To Quit You

I never wanted to be one of those people who had to wake up and drink a cup of coffee before being able to think. I’m able to function for a little while without my morning joe, but I definitely have to have a cup of coffee at some point in the morning or else I get a headache.

Like any addict, I used to say I could quit the bean when I wanted to. I would say that I would avoid coffee on the weekends, but lately I’ve been hitting the java on Saturday and Sunday too. I guess this officially makes me a caffeine addict. Like my parents and basically the majority of Americans.

This past weekend, I decided I was going coffee-free this week. It was all going well until I was up all last night with a terrible sinus headache. Because of this, I was groggy and cranky this morning. Well that meant that I needed some coffee to get the day started right. Then my sweet boyfriend bought me some Starbucks this afternoon. How could I resist? I drank that too. Needless to say, my no-coffee plan is not going well. I really would like to switch to green tea. It still has a little caffeine (but not as much), but also has lots of antioxidants so it’s actually good for you. I just don’t know if I’m going to be able to fully quit the coffee thing.

The good news is I don’t buy coffee every morning. I used to do that during college, but as soon as I had to spend my own money I dropped that like the bad habit it was. Now I use this stuff: It’s not just Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. It’s Dunkin’ Donuts TURBO coffee. I think that means it has extra caffeine in it. Whatever it is, it’s amazing. I make a pot of this at home and get my little travel mug and I am off on my merry way. I’m going to force myself to try the green tea thing at least one day this week and see how it goes. Pray for me. The coffee devil has got me good.
