Youth is wasted on the young…or something

Here’s what I realized today:

When I was younger I’d do anything to have my dentist appointment canceled. I couldn’t wait to be a grown up so I could eat candy and cookies for dinner and breakfast every day. I always begged and pleaded to be allowed to stay up past my 8:30 bedtime. I couldn’t wait to live on my own so I could watch TV all day and not have anyone bothering me about playing outside or straining my eyes.

4-year-old me. Serious badass

Now that I’m a grown up, I just had to cancel my dentist appoint. But I rescheduled it for the next day. What? I didn’t want to go too long without a cleaning. I go to bed early so I can wake up early and go to the gym and to the grocery store to get fresh fruits and veggies to eat. I think Little Kid Lauren would be SERIOUSLY disappointed in Adult Lauren. Where are the cookies? What about the candy? And voluntarily going to the dentist!? Come on now! I still watch a lot of TV though.

“Youth is wasted on the young”–whoever said that. Maybe Yogi Berra or someone like that

What did you imagine being a grown up was like when you were younger?
