I’m so excited to tell you guys about this! As a recent grad, I know it’s insanely hard to find your first job. A lot of my friends are still interning/temping/searching. I also know it’s even harder to find something you really love to do. This giveaway is perfect for recent grads who are job searching, or seniors who will be on the job hunt soon.
Here’s the deal. This is Ryan Kahn.
He’s a career coach for Dream Careers, Inc. and the star of MTV’s Hired, which is a documentary series helping recent grads land the job of their dreams. He also just wrote a book called Hired! The Guide for the Recent Grad. I read it today and it is awesome. It’s a quick read, but it’s REALLY helpful. The book gives you sample resumes and cover letters to look at. It has space to keep track of where you’ve sent your resume (and what kind of follow up you’ve done). It also gives you space to write out what you’re looking for in a job. Basically this book helps you stay organized during a job hunt, and find out what you really want to be doing. That second part is key. Who really wants to get a job at a company they’ll hate? Probably no one.
How you will benefit: I have five digital copies of the book to give away. This is awesome because you can download it right to your computer and print it out. This way you can write in the worksheets, and always have this handy-dandy guide with you.
How to win it: Either e-mail me (lauren@lifewithlauren.com), leave a comment on this post, or tweet me @lifewithlauren1 and tell me (briefly) about the worst job you’ve ever had. This book is going to help you get a great, fun job. Let’s talk about the boring, tedious, awful ones, since you’ll never be working at them again, right? Bonus points if you like my Life with Lauren Facebook page (shameless, I know).
Start submitting! I’ll pick a winner next week. Good luck!
Update: Congratulations to my soon-to-be-employed (at amazing jobs) winners! They each won a copy of Ryan Kahn’s Hired! The Guide for the Recent Grad. The winners were Marisa S., Katie L., Rebecca G., Jordan S., and Ashley B.! Congrats again and thanks to everyone who participated!

So! My horrible job. Mostly included a horrible boss who was a complete micromanager and never trusted me to do ANYTHING despite the fact that I worked there for nearly a year. I was working six days a week, utterly exhausted, and had a boss that was SO FULL OF HIMSELF and thought he was the smartest thing on the earth. He also tried to force me out of my job, which clearly did not sit well with me, and made me find my replacement. WELL. By the time my last day came, he still had NO ONE to take my job even after two months of us looking and interviewing. I was so happy to get out of there — even more so that he had screwed me over and was now left in the lurch.
It all seems like a distant memory now, even though my last day was only in May… I can’t believe I spent eleven months there!
