Learn From Celebrity Relationship Mistakes

I have officially quit the Kardashians. I’ve unfollowed them on Twitter. I think. Except I started following a fake Kris Humphries Twitter which is too hilarious to pass up. Check that out here. I also realized yesterday that I forgot to unfollow Rob Kardashian. I realized this after he tweeted 14 times about voting for him on Dancing with the Stars. Bye bye, Rob. I even unfollowed little Kendall and Kylie. They didn’t do anything wrong per say, but they’re part of the family and therefore they’re part of the problem. Kim’s divorce from Kris after 72 days left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yes

All that hype and pomp and circumstance and money for pictures and then they were divorced before I even had time to remember to delete her four hour wedding special off my DVR to clear some room for Chelsea Lately. It just doesn’t sit right with me. I wrote about it before, and now I decided that I am officially over the Kardashians. I have no problem with reality TV. I watch plenty of it. But to me there’s a big difference between the insanely cute Giuliana and Bill Rancic and the Kardashian family. Giuliana and Bill clearly are a solid couple both on TV and off. I might be wrong, but I don’t get the feeling that they do their show for money. I get the feeling they do it to expose awareness about infertility problems and to show what a great relationship is. They are fun and light-hearted and are clearly nuts about each other. The Kardashians clearly just tried to jam as many sponsors as possible into their show…. Do they really think that we believe they use Living Social to book their vacations? Come on now.

My latest piece for The College Crush talks about Kim and Kris, and other celebrities who rush into marriage. Yeah, it’s funny to make fun of these ridiculous people. How could Kim let her fiance say to her, “Four years ago you were selling clothes at a boutique (pronounced wrong) in the Valley and now you think you’re Miss Princess?” and think that their love was meant to last? Is she insane? Or just insanely stupid? But I think there’s something that we mortals can learn from these quicky marriages and engagements and divorces and generally ridiculous relationships. Here’s the first part of my latest for The College Crush.

No for so many reasons

In approximately sixth or seventh grade, it became cool to have a boyfriend or girlfriend. Everyone began coupling up. You may have met your new main squeeze when he picked you for his kickball team, or maybe he sat next to you in social studies. Your romantic activities probably included talking on AIM and walking around with a few other couples at your local mall. It was all fun and games until you saw your love talking to another girl during math class. Then it got ugly.  Until the next day at lunch when you found a new sweetheart. For celebrities, it seems like engagement and marriage are their form of the middle school relationship. They’re doing it often, and they’re doing it without a lot of thought. One marriage or relationship ends? Time to get engaged to someone else. No biggie. It makes me twitchy when these lavish weddings are almost immediately followed by a divorce announcement and a request for privacy “during this difficult time.” These celebrities are changing spouses like some people change nail polish.

For instance, this week we have Kim Kardashian’s “shocking” divorce announcement after a lengthy 72 days of marriage. I wrote this post predicting the end of their marriage, and now I’m pretty sure I have psychic powers. Or they just had a really crappy marriage that was obviously made for TV. Either way. The Kardashian/Humphries marriage ended up costing the couple almost $200,000 a day when you calculate the cost of the wedding compared to the length of the marriage. Those crazy kids. This week there are also reports that Kurt Cobain’s 19-year-old daughter Francis Bean is getting married. To a guy who looks like Kurt Cobain. I’m sure psychiatrists everywhere are having a field day with that one. Adding to the flurry of engagement/divorce announcements this week is The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco. She’s getting hitched even though she just recently got out of a long-term relationship with someone else. Then we have the shocking and sad announcement that double cuties Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard are divorcing. Click here to read the rest.

  1. when i first heard about Kim’s divorce, the first thing that popped into my mind was your blog 😉 haha. and for the record, you did call it! I’m sure everyone kinda knew it wouldn’t last. I just didn’t think it would be THIS soon. I unfollowed them awhile ago. Nothing against them, they can just be a tad bit annoying (and self absorbed lol). and they made Mondays annoying with the “Vote for Rob!” thing. I know they want to help him out, but we get it! 😛 Kourtney even asked us to pray for Rob to stay in the competition. Pray? Come on. anyway, i stopped watching them awhile ago but I always enjoyed your Kardashian-related posts. Well, I enjoy all of your posts actually. Theyre very helpful 😀

I’m so honored to be the first one you thought of! And I hate to say it, but…I did call it (about the divorce). Thank you for the nice comments, Cherie. You are so sweet! You are so right about the DWTS thing being out of control. They treat it like a matter of life or death. The whole family needs a reality check. To say the least… I’m so glad my posts are helpful! That’s what I aim for. Thanks again for the nice words and have a great weekend!
