My Fix For Dry, Crappy Winter Skin/Scalp

I came out of my hair salon a new woman after my last visit, and I want to share my newfound knowledge with you. See, the winter is not a happy time for my face or skin. My scalp is normally fine, but the combination of dry winter air and heat in my apartment makes it flakey, gross and generally uncomfortable. I know I could use Head and Shoulders to get rid of this problem, but Head and Shoulders strips color from your hair. I pay a pretty penny for my hair color, so that is not a great option. By the way, I have a few gray hairs. I’m 23. Not right. Anyway, I was looking for a way to get rid of my temporary dandruff issue but still keep my color fresh.

Anna, the stylist I’ve been seeing since I was 6 years old (cute, right?), recommended the Surface haircare products to me. I had never heard of them before. Turns out they are AMAZING. I’m using the Surface Awaken shampoo/conditioner. It says it’s for thinning hair, but I’m using them because they treat dry scalp and also work with colored hair. They look like this:

You leave the shampoo on for 60 seconds and it gets all tingly and cool and feels amazing. Dandruff is gone. Color still looks great. Hair is soft. I’m obsessed. The products are a little pricey, but they’re definitely worth it. This is the Surface website if you want to find a salon near you that’s carrying the line. I also found them on Amazon.

During the same salon visit I also got some great face wash and an amazing exfoliating scrub. I always complain to Christine, the lady who does my nails/waxing, about my craptastic skin. It’s dry on my cheeks but super oily on my chin. Bad news. I don’t like using really harsh scrubs and washes on it, but I want to keep it clean and exfoliated. She was nice enough to bring in two bottles of a skincare line called Skin by Ann Webb for me to try. The cleanser is all-natural (no gross chemicals in it) and it smells all minty and nice. I’m also using the Lavendar Silk Face and Body Powder Scrub. Like the name implies, it’s a powder which you mix in with your favorite cleanser. You then use the combination to exfoliate your skin. It’s gentle but still effective and I love it. The line is great and I’m really glad Christine introduced me to it. Here’s the Skin by Ann Web site if you want to check it out. You can order the products online.

Do you have any go-to products for wintertime? I’d love to hear about them!
