Resolution-Friendly Snacks

If you made a New Year’s resolution involving any of the following things: being healthy, eating healthy, not eating junk, cutting back on caffeine, then I think it’s safe to say that you fit in with about 90% of the population. I’ve been trying to eat healthy, not necessarily worry about calories but just be more aware of what I’m eating. I’m also really trying to cut back on caffeine. For a while I was trying to go cold turkey and it just wasn’t happening. But I’m down from my normal 2-3 cups a day to just one mug of coffee in the morning. Yeah, it’s a pretty big mug but…it’s an improvement.

I’ve found a few snacks that are “resolution-friendly” aka good for you, but still quick, easy, and delicious. If you’ve taken a JetBlue flight recently you may be aware of the awesomeness that are PopCorners.

These guys have the taste of popcorn with the satisfying crunch of a potato chip. For a while you could only find them on JetBlue flights, but I was jumping for joy yesterday because I found them at the grocery store. PopCorners for all! PopCorners come in all kinds of flavors, but I like the White Cheddar and the Kettle the best. They’re so satisfying but the nutrition facts won’t scare you, which is refreshing and awesome. Each bag contains 140 calories and 4 grams of fat. They’re high in sodium so you can’t be eating bag after bag every day, but they’re SO SO SO much better for you than say…Doritos or whatever else you’d reach for to curb your salty chip craving. I am a huge fan.

I’m also loving Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds. They come in 100 calorie packs and they are so amazing. I eat them for dessert because they’re chocolate-y sweet and amazing. They satisfy my sugar/chocolate craving. The fact that they’re almonds also means that they’re nice and filling so they can double as a “It’s 3pm why am I starving?” snack too.

Each 100 calorie pack has 8 grams of fat, 1 gram of sugar, and 3 grams of protein. So yummy.

Lastly, I’ve been replacing my coffee-guzzling habit with coconut water. Vita Coco to be specific. It comes in tons of different flavors as you can see here:

In an 11.2 ounce container of coconut water (like what you see in the picture) you’ll find about 60 calories (different sites have different numbers, but this seemed to be the most common answer). Coconut water definitely takes getting used to when you first start drinking it. It has a unique taste. Not quite sweet, but definitely not like normal tap water. But once you get used to it you’ll love it. I always feel hydrated and refreshed when I’m drinking it, and it doesn’t have the sugar and general yuck that sports drinks have. And, as the package says, it has “More electrolytes than the leading sports drinks…more potassium than two bananas to keep your body properly hydrated and prevent cramping. No fat, no cholesterol.” Vita Coco has attracted lots of celebrity fans. Madonna has invested in the brand and Rihanna is the celeb spokesperson. I’ve tried other brands and none are as good as this one. I love it!
