For literally three weeks after Chris and I finished watching The Sopranos I felt a faint yet distinct feeling of melancholy. I know it sounds strange, but it’s true. I was obsessed with that show. I couldn’t wait to watch a new episode. When it was all over I’m pretty sure I went through withdrawal. Teen Mom 2 and Toddlers and Tiaras just weren’t doing it for me. I mean moments like this one provide some form of entertainment, but they just aren’t as engrossing and stimulating as The Sopranos. But I’m relieved to say those days are over because I found this show:
Breaking Bad is completely different from The Sopranos but it is SO FREAKIN’ GOOD! It’s about a high school chemistry teacher who’s diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. He starts cooking meth with one of his former students as a way to earn money for his family. He’s got a wife, a teenage son, and a baby on the way. The show is gritty, dark, at times funny, intense, thought-provoking, and all-around awesome. Chris and I blew through the first season in a matter of days. I think there’s only been three seasons so we’re not that far behind.
Now I know a lot of people hate on Netflix because they keep changing their policies and increasing their prices, but I’ve had a great experience with Netflix in terms of Breaking Bad. We got a Netflix subscription for 8 bucks a month and can now stream the episodes right to my computer. When we were watching The Sopranos we would go out and buy every season on DVD. I know we could have rented them, but it was almost as expensive and then we actually had to not lose them and return them on time. Had I known about this Netflix thing we could have saved serious money. I know Netflix has its flaws, but I think for streaming seasons of TV shows on your computer it couldn’t be better. The picture is good quality, no commercials, no more trying to find the shows for free on sketchy, virus-ridden sites. I’m a fan.
If you’re looking for a great series to watch, this is your show. It’s definitely not light or breezy, but it has its funny moments and its got great acting and a really interesting plot (and a unique concept).
Are you a fan of Breaking Bad? How about Netflix? Are you a new convert like me?
