Things to Give Up For Happiness

When you graduate college you’re trying to find a job. Talk to any recent alum and you can figure that out pretty quickly. But, more importantly, I think we’re all trying to figure out what makes us happy. What job, what city, what people, what hobbies, we want to know what things in life make us happy and make us feel good. It can be a struggle to balance these things with the circumstances you have to work with. I just read a great article called 15 Things You Should Give Up to Be Happy and it’s worth a read if you’re still trying to figure out exactly what you want out of your post-college situation.

I’m definitely working on giving up my need for control (it’s a struggle) and giving up excuses. The article also suggests giving up the past and giving up self-doubt in order to be happier, which I definitely agree with. I also love this quote the author uses:

“The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, however, it becomes very destructive.” Eckhart Tolle

How true is that? There are so many cases where you are your own worst enemy and toughest critic, so take that out of the equation and make things much easier for yourself.

How are you changing your attitude and behavior to get happier? If you need a little boost, you could watch this new David Beckham commercial. I just love how he says “smoovee”. Swoon. Okay, I’m sorry. I’m shameless. But…but…he’s just perfect. Literally every time this commercial comes on TV there must be silence in my living room, and my boyfriend knows he will end up rewinding the TV at least once. It’s fine.
