Cancel Your Doctor's Appointment. I've Got You Covered

I am in no way a medical professional, but I see enough doctors and pay enough co-pays that I feel as though I should use my (slightly) hypochondriac tendencies for good and not evil. And that means that I’m going to show you a few products that doctors have told me about that I love. From dry skin to sinus issues, I’ve got you covered. My favorite items look like this:

copay

Clockwise: Liquid herbal peppermint extract, Desoximetasone cream, NeilMed sinus rinse, and Closys toothpaste

Now a bit about each product

Liquid herbal peppermint extract: I’m obsessed with chewing gum and mints, but get nervous about consuming too much artificial sweetener. My dentist recommended this to me as an alternative. I was actually looking for peppermint oil, but found this instead and really like it. You put a few drops in water and get a really refreshing drink. You can find this at a health food store or in the organic section of your grocery store.

Desoximetasone cream: I don’t know whether it’s dry air or a reaction to my soap/body wash, but recently I’ve developed eczema on my shoulders and hands. It got really bad, so my dermatologist put me on this steroid cream, and it’s cleared up really quickly. Before I was literally dying from the itchy, dry feeling, and now it’s much better. Sidenote: if you also have eczema/dry skin, be careful about which shower products you use. I was obsessed with Irish Spring, but it turns out that brand is particularly tough on skin. He recommended that I switch to Dove soap, and it’s really helped. This is a prescription cream.

NeilMed Sinus Rinse: This may be my favorite product discovery of them all. For basically as long as I can remember, I’ve had terrible headaches. This past fall, they actually became debilitating. Basically every weekend I was stuck in bed because my head hurt so bad. When the headache wasn’t as extreme, I was just tired all the time. It was miserable.  I went to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor who suggested I use this sinus rinse. I won’t lie, sinus rinses used to freak me out/disgust me. The idea of purposely pouring water into your nose and then shooting snot out of your face? No thank you. But after several sinus rinses, I am a changed woman.

If you have sinus pain, allergies, and other issues, this thing will literally change your life. Doing a rinse is not the prettiest picture. In fact, if you want to keep the romance in your relationship, I’d suggest not letting your significant other see you do one. However, when you’re done you feel so much better. This is inexpensive and can be purchased at the drugstore. The Netti Pot is another similar option, but I’m personally attached to this one.

Closys toothpatse: This toothpaste gives your teeth a refreshed, minty feeling without the dryness that you can experience when you brush with a toothpaste that’s full of chemicals. My dentist explained that the agent that makes your toothpaste lather up so nicely can also cause your mouth to get really dry. I’m a big fan of this toothpaste. The mint flavor isn’t overpowering, but you still feel clean when you’re done. They also have a mouthwash, which is amazing. I HATE Listerine and hate how it burns, but like the results. Now you can get the after effects with no eye-watering in between. This is sold at dentists’ offices.

I’ve also become a big fan of Eucerin Skin Calming Daily Moisturizing cream. If you’re dealing with the dry air that winter brings like I am, this stuff helps to protect your hands. The cream is more effective than a lotion, because it’s thicker. You can buy it for a cheap price at the drug store, and slather it on to see big results.

Do you have any products that you’re loving now that I should try?
