My Favorite Ways to Workout At Home

Now that the weather’s getting nice, I’m looking forward to taking walks/jogs on the trail at the park near my apartment. However, sometimes I’m pressed for time and can’t lace up my shoes, drive over there, then do my workout. In these instances (or instances when I just don’t feel like leaving my apartment to exercise) I really enjoy two workout DVDs in particular. They are:

Jillian Michaels’ Yoga Meltdown

If you think yoga is all “om” and downward dog and relaxing, you are wrong. Everyone knows Ms. Michaels is tough, and this DVD is actually a great workout. It stretches and tones, and you’ll get sweaty. There are two levels, so you can work your way up to #2. The Level 1 workout takes about 30 minutes, making it great if you’re a little pressed for time but still want to get a workout in. It’s a challenge, but it’s not so hard that it becomes frustrating. I’m definitely a big fan.


Ballet Beautiful

I’m also a big fan of this DVD. The instructor/founder, Mary Helen Bowers, has trained some of Hollywood’s biggest names, and worked with Natalie Portman as she got ready to shoot Black Swan. The workout features ballet inspired moves to tone and strengthen. This workout is no joke, so if you’re looking for a fun challenge at home, this is the way to go.

Next on my “to try” list is Physique 57. I’ll admit, I found out about this workout because Erin Andrews is their spokesperson, but their marketing scheme worked. I checked out the site (you can buy pay per view workouts online and they also have DVDs) and I’m going to try it next week. I’m also interested in the Pure Barre DVDs, since I’ve heard great things but we don’t have a studio near me.
