I was lukewarm about seeing “Captain Phillips” but Chris really wanted to see it. I wanted to try out this movie theater near my apartment where you can eat a full meal and drink as you watch (does it get more amazing? No.) so I was down. Turns out the movie was amazing and you should go see it immediately. It wasn’t exactly what I’d call relaxing or heartwarming, but it will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. Tom Hanks is amazing, per usual, and the rest of the cast is strong too. The start of the movie helps to show you things from the Somalian pirates’ point of view, thus making it a little easier to empathize as the movie goes on.
Let me just say this though: if you want to leave laughing or feeling relaxed, go see something else. “Don Jon” perhaps, though I haven’t seen it yet so I don’t know. But if you want a movie that will make your palms sweaty and keep you interested from start to finish, this is it. Normally I feel like all movies are a half hour too long. Looking back on it, I think they could have probably trimmed down the middle of this movie too, but it was still riveting and didn’t leave you going, “Okay, can this end now please?”
Have you seen the movie? What’d you think?
